In the market for a new Bible? I have followed along with the She Reads Truth team for quite some time and have loved using several of their Bible Study books. When I found out they were coming out with a Bible, I couldn’t wait to flip through it.

This Bible is a little more expensive because it is a hardcover and you can get the unique linen cover or one of the two leather cover options. Before you make the investment, check out the things I think are awesome and also not so great in my review of the She Reads Truth Bible.

THINGS I LOVE ABOUT THE SHE READS TRUTH BIBLE

MARGINS

Y’all. If you like taking notes in your Bible, the She Reads Truth Bible will speak to you. There is so much writing room. The Bible I have been using since college had the tightest margins ever and I was constantly limiting the notes I wanted to make because I would run out of room. NO LONGER. I could probably write the annotated version of the entire Bible in those margins.

In my opinion, that is one of the greatest things about the SRT Bible. They really designed it with the note taker in mind. Bravo!

DESIGN

Not to sound shallow about a Bible, but this thing is beautiful. The cover is lovely and comes in five gorgeous colors (I picked Poppy). There is also amazing artwork at the start of each book. The SRT Team picked a verse for each book of the bible and made it into art. It is very similar to the free phone wallpapers they put out on their website.

So if you want to just take a bunch of pretty pics for Instagram, this Bible is perfect for that. Although, I do find that you get the best use out of Bibles if you read them as well.

READING PLANS

I found the She Reads Truth website several years ago because one of my friends was doing one of their reading plans that they post for free at SheReadsTruth.com. The team has taken the wonderful reading plans that they have created for years on their site and adds a touch of that to this Bible. Each book has a reading plan that you can follow that will help you focus on getting through each book in a certain time period. There are also small devotionals sprinkled in every book.

If one of your goals is to read the Bible in a year, you can follow along with their yearly reading plan, which comes complete with boxes to check off (which makes me feel way more accomplished).

THINGS I DIDN’T LOVE ABOUT THE SHE READS TRUTH BIBLE

COMMENTARY

The Bible I have used since college is the Life Application Study Bible and the commentary is FANTASTIC. I don’t know about you, but when I read the Bible, I typically have some questions. The She Reads Truth Bible has no commentary. The most in-depth thing you will get is a brief devotional about topics that come up in the book, but nothing that is specific to the verse you may have had questions on.

I totally understand why they had to cut out any commentary, as it is a HUGE Bible and they needed all the space they could get to fill it with other pretty things.

If you get the SRT Bible, I would recommend keeping a version of the Bible with some good commentary or be prepared to use google when you have questions!

THIN PAGES

There is a lot of content in this Bible and to make everything fit, the SRT Team made the pages of the Bible VERY thin. I love to use Papermate Flair Pens, but no can do on these thin sheets. Those pens bleed like crazy, but so do normal ballpoint pens. I did have a friend recommend to me the Muji Gel Pens (from Japan!) as pens that won’t bleed through the pages, and I have indeed tried and tested them and they work great.

If you don’t mind having your notes bleed through the pages, then this is not a worry at all. But if you do, just be sure to get a set of the Muji Gel Pens before you check out with your SRT Bible!

SIZE

This is a BIG book. Some would say, “It’s Huuuge”. While I don’t believe it is that heavy, it is a little large to be carrying in my purse to and from church, especially when I am also carrying a diaper bag.

The size of the Bible was not a make-or-break thing for me, but that may factor in heavily for you. I still bring it with me to church because the wide margins are such a game changer for me, but you may want to just leave this one on your nightstand!

What do you think?! After this review, are you ready to dive in to the She Reads Truth Bible or sticking to your current copy of the Word?

Either way, just be sure you are sitting down and reading scripture for at least a few minutes every day!

I challenge you to spend 10 minutes every day this week reading the Bible. Start with the Gospel of John if you don’t know where you begin! Let me know how you do in the comments below!

  1. I have had my eye on this bible for quite some time so I REALLY appreciate your review. Finding a good bible for your life and where you are at spiritually has felt so hard (aka, I want to buy them ALL) and our review has helped solidify a little more that I need to take the plunge and just buy one of these already!

    1. I’m glad it was helpful! I am totally with you on wanting to buy them all, but also agree that you should just jump in and get one! 🙂

    1. I believe that She Reads Truth only has one version of this Bible and they were originally published in 2017. The translation is the Christians Standard Bible!
